Sony said to be removing the microSD slot to trim its Xperia Z4

Now that we've safely negotiated Mobile World Congress, we can start thinking about some of the phones that didn't show up in Barcelona - chief among themthe Sony Xperia Z4. New rumours hint that the firm has slimmed down its next flagship and removed the microSD card slot along the way.
That's according to PhoneArena, which has managed to get hold of some leaked photos of the upcoming handset. It looks like the Xperia Z4 is going to shave 1mm (0.04 inches) off the thickness of the Xperia Z3, giving it a depth of around 6.3mm (0.25 inches).
It appears that the microSD slot has been ditched in the process too - it's nowhere to be found in the new photos. As a result you'll have to make do with the supplied internal storage if you pick up the new smartphone from Sony.

Port placement

The microphone has been moved as well, while the microUSB port no longer has a flap covering it - that might mean the waterproofing that the Xperia Z3 boasted has gone, but we don't think that's likely considering the way Sony has highlighted the feature in the past.
There's more than one way to waterproof a port, after all, and the recently unveiled M4 Aqua manages to pull it off without any protection for the microUSB slot. Let's hope the Sony Xperia Z4 does the same.
Our Xperia Z4 hub collects all the rumours and gossip we've heard about the phone so far, including the potential use of optical image stabilisation in the handset's camera. We're expecting the device to finally see the light of day sometime during the summer.
